An Introduction to Elliptic Curve Cryptography

This talk will be a gentle introduction to elliptic curve cryptography. I will explain what elliptic curves are and why they are relevant in the context of public-key cryptography. No previous knowledge of elliptic curves or public-key cryptography will be assumed.

Speaker Bio

Elisa Gorla received the M.S degree in Mathematics from the University of Genoa, Italy in 1999 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame, USA in 2001 and 2004, respectively. In 2004, she joined the Department of Mathematics of the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and in 2009 she became a Swiss National Science Foundation Professor at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Since 2012, she has been a Professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland. Her research interests include coding theory, cryptography, Groebner bases, as well as topics in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry
